Monk Glyphs
Quick list of all the monk glyphs, with my thoughts.
Quick recommendations:
- Brewmaster: Spinning Crane Kick/Breath of Fire/Expel Harm
- Mistweaver: Mana Tea/Renewing Mists/Expel Harm
- Windwalker: Spinning Crane Kick/Touch of Karma/Blackout Kick (Afterlife while leveling)
Usable by all monks
| Glyph | Notes |
|---|---|
| Glyph of Crackling Jade Lightning | Useful for Mistweavers. |
| Glyph of Enduring Healing Sphere | I could see this having some narrow situational use in building a fallback point. Yeah, I’m reaching. |
| Glyph of Expel Harm | More range on a self-heal is always a good thing. |
| Glyph of Fortifying Brew | Eh. I’d rather have the health. |
| Glyph of Path of Blossoms | While this makes PoB better, PoB is still far too hard to use on a regular basis. |
| Glyph of Retreat | Hm. Will threat be a problem again? Doubt it. Skip it. |
| Glyph of Spinning Crane Kick | Great glyph, recommended for everybody. |
| Glyph of Stoneskin | Er, okay. Way to counter ferals! Yeah! |
| Glyph of Touch of Death | In general, I’d skip this for windwalkers, but brewmasters and mistweavers might find some use from it. |
| Glyph of Transcendence | Situationally helpful for all specs. |
| Glyph of Zen Meditation | Very key for some advanced ZM strategies. (Namely, pop ZM, taunt, and run like hell.) |
Brewmaster-only
| Glyph | Notes |
|---|---|
| Glyph of Breath of Fire | Not bad; you might not get the full disorient if things are getting attacked, but it does serve to interrupt things. |
| Glyph of Clash | I’m not a big fan of Clash, so I’m not recommending this right now. |
| Glyph of Guard | Straight-up situational. |
| Glyph of Leer of the Ox | I confess, I haven’t tested this, so I don’t know how well it works. |
Mistweaver-only
| Glyph | Notes |
|---|---|
| Glyph of Life Cocoon | Mistweaver PvP. |
| Glyph of Mana Tea | Encounter dependent for Mistweavers; preferred for moving fights where you won’t have the freedom to channel. |
| Glyph of Renewing Mists | Highly recommended, if just for the range boost. |
| Glyph of Surging Mist | Turns SuM into a smart heal…not bad for leveling as a MW where you can just DPS heal and hit SuMs without thinking, but not recommended for endgame. |
| Glyph of Uplift | It’s probably better to focus on getting more chi…not sure. Have to think about ways to utilize this. |
Windwalker-only
| Glyph | Notes |
|---|---|
| Glyph of Afterlife | Very good glyph for leveling and dailies; really cuts down on downtime. |
| Glyph of Fists of Fury | Handy for stun-immune mobs (or regular mobs that were previously stunned) |
| Glyph of Sparring | Definitely more for PvP, but the stacking nature makes it pretty weak. |
| Glyph of Touch of Karma | So, a 12 yd range increase (melee range is about 8 yds). Not totally terrible, but how often are you in that 8-20 zone? Not frequently, I’d imagine. |
Minor Glyphs
| Glyph | Notes |
|---|---|
| Glyph of Crackling Tiger Lightning | Color swap, wee! |
| Glyph of Fighting Pose | Strike a pose. |
| Glyph of Flying Serpent Kick | It can be difficult to manually target FSK, and I figure the times you’re trying to glide past a target are pretty limited. Unforunately, this also takes out your ability to “stop” FSK by recasting it, so I don’t recommend it. |
| Glyph of Honor | Actually, this one’s pretty cool. |
| Glyph of Jab | Totally personal preference here; I like the weapon animations. |
| Glyph of Rising Tiger Kick | Color swap, wee! |
| Glyph of Spirit Roll | This actually cuts down corpse runback time significantly. |
| Glyph of Water Roll | Not overly useful, but cool when you’re questing. |
| Glyph of Zen Flight | Zen Flight doesn’t move very fast, so eh. |

Gliding Serpent Kick and Spinning Fire Blossom are the ‘I’m to lagged to be able to time it’. I actually haven’t played with Windwalker yet so haven’t tried out but if it ends up being like the cannon in the Darkmoon Faire – getting inside the rings is hit and miss for me!
The one use I could see for Glyph of Retreat is if you don’t get the range talent for Paralysis. It would mean a dps/healer could roll -> paralysis -> roll and then the tank could easily build the initial threat needed to grab the other mobs that aren’t cced. Particularly if they have chi torpedo instead of roll and so they are doing damage as well.
The Zen Flight doesn’t move very fast…yeah! But monk is the only class that can flight in pandaria at 85!
And it’s an instant cast (like druid flight form) so it’s gets an A+ from me :D
You cant fly at lvl 85 in Pandaria ! No matter if you are monk, priest, druid or whatever you need flying license like everyone else.
I have a feeling Dymir meant because you can use the Zen Flight there but, I am not to lvl 85 yet so when I get there I will confirm.
I decided to give the Zen Flight a try and I gotta tell ya I love it! I think people are highly underrating it and likely haven’t found it’s full use. Yes it’s slow but, it’s not a mount used for long range flying. I have found that you can pick things up without getting off of it.like a mount yet, it’s not as wide as a mount so you can fly over a crate, box, barrel, etc. drop yourself down right above it, pick up the item and fly up without triggering anything. Plus it’s easier to get around smaller areas and things, I really love it.
I love Zen Flight — my long-time main is a Druid so I’m really used to how convenient an instant cast flight form is. Zen Flight may not be full mount speed like a Druid’s flight form but it is almost as good for moving around small areas (archaeology digs, “collect 8 of these” type quests etc.), jumping out of water into the air etc. — and you can mount up while zen flying, or cast it while falling off your mount (if you’re not too close to the ground) so it’s easy to switch back and forth. You can even fish from it…
